COVID-19 UPDATE

UPDATE FROM PALOLO CHINESE HOME

IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19

Updated: March 17, 2020

As the situation surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) evolves, Palolo Chinese Home provides updates on changes to programming, events and facility usage.  This update affects PCH’s Senior Day Care Center programing specifically.

We continue to prioritize the health and safety of our seniors, staff, guests, visitors, and community through guidance received from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Hawaii’s Department of Health (DOH).  The update below is precautionary in order to protect our residents as well as prevent the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community.

Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with guidance from State and local health officials to prevent the spread of COVID-19, PCH is implementing the following change effective implementation date until further notice:

  • Palolo Chinese Home’s Senior Day Care Center and program will be closed effective 5:30 PM, on Friday, March 20, 2020

*****Date subject to change at any time without prior notice*****

The Senior Day Care Center at Palolo Chinese Home will be closed at the end of program day on Friday at 5:30 PM for an undetermined amount of time due to COVID—19 precautions.  PCH currently has zero (0) cases of COVID-19 in our facility.

Palolo Chinese Home understands this closure will be difficult for families and the health and safety of our residents, participants, staff, and families remains our highest priority.

Should you need in-home services in the interim, please contact Rachel Laffin, (808) 748-4909, for assistance with services provided through our Palolo Wellness Program.

PCH is continuing to restrict visitation to the facility of all visitors and non-essential health care personnel, except for certain compassionate care situations which need to be scheduled through the nurses.

Take steps to protect yourself:

Clean your hands often

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact

  • Do not gather in groups larger than 10 people
  • Practice social distancing. Put at least 6 feet distance between yourself and other people

Take steps to protect others

  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Cover coughs and sneezes or use the inside of your elbow
  • Wash your hands after every cough or sneeze

Wear a facemask if you are sick

  • If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office.
  • If you are NOT sick: You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick (and they are not able to wear a facemask).

Clean and disinfect

  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

For the latest COVID-19 updates at PCH, a dedicated COVID-19 hotline has been activated.  Please call 808-748-4906 or you can access PCH’s website at www.palolohome.org

We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important, and there are a variety of other ways you might consider communicating with them including telephone, email, text, or through Facetime, Skype, or Facebook. PCH is willing to coordinate and assist with this.
